Our gorgeous poinsettias are grown right here at Shady Lane Greenhouses in Menomonee Falls. We plant in July, and with all of our expertise and care we grow them into the beauties you love at Christmas. Karl Hornung has been producing a fabulous crop of poinsettias since 1977, each year he has added new varieties, colors, and sizes to meet the growing desire for Christmas plants. Poinsettia is the most sold potted plant in the world, and we do our part at Shady Lane Greenhouse to provide the best poinsettias in Southeast Wisconsin.

Poinsettia Care

Poinsettias are easy-to-care-for houseplants! They are not poisonous, contrary to popular belief, and can be kept in a household of children and pets.  Place your poinsettia near a bright window, protecting it from cold or hot drafts. Check the weight of the pot and the feel of the soil to determine when it’s time to water. When dry, remove the pot from the decorative foil and take it to the sink. Use tepid water, not too cold, not hot (!), and water the soil thoroughly. Let the water drain completely from the bottom of the pot, then return to the decorative foil and place back in your perfect location. Plants can live forever, but if you tire of Christmas don’t feel bad about putting your plant in the compost pile – we will grow more for you next year! Merry Christmas!
