THIS WEEK’S GARDEN TIPS
Remove, replace and transplant perennials and roses.
Wait a little longer – until the ground freezes –
to cover roses and any tender perennials.
We will have more information and guidelines about
seasonal protection in the coming weeks – including
evergreen boughs, wrap around tree protection
and Liquid Fence to keep away hungry bunnies and deer.
RECIPES
Ghosts in the Graveyard: Fast & Fun for Kids
2 pkgs. (4-serving size) chocolate instant pudding/pie filling
3 ½ cups cold milk
1 tub (12 oz.) whipped topping
1 pkg. (16 oz.) chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
Additional cookies and candy for decorating, as desired.
Graveyard: Prepare pudding as directed on package using 3 ½ cups milk; let stand 5 minutes. Stir in 3 cups of the whipped topping and half of the crushed cookies. Spoon into 13 x 9 baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining sandwich cookies. Refrigerate for one hour.
Ghosts: Drop dollops of whipped topping on top to make ghosts.
Use rectangular cookies to make tombstones.
Add candies for decoration.
Pumpkin Cupcakes w/Cream Cheese Frosting: YUM!
1 pkg. (18 ¼ oz.) yellow cake mix
1 pkg. (4-serving size) vanilla instant pudding mix
1 cup canned pumpkin
½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup water
3 eggs
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. vanilla
Beat all ingredients with electric mixer on low speed just
until moistened. Beat on medium speed another two minutes.
Spoon batter into 24 paper-lined muffin cups, filling each by half.
Bake in preheated 350° oven for 20 minutes.
Cool before frosting.
Cream Cheese Frosting:
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
¼ cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
¼ tsp. ground cloves
1 box or bag (16 oz.) of confectioners’ sugar
Beat together cream cheese, butter, vanilla and cloves until
light and fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar until smooth.
